Waterproof Favorites!

Hello Beautiful! After a long, fun adventure people ask me what makeup I have on; what eyeliner are you wearing, what kind of mascara? Yes, I am one of those girls who wears makeup while hiking or working out. No, I do not contour or bake but I do add a little life to my face for, let’s be honest, memorable pictures! I love an au naturel look any day but I do support accentuating your facial features to your liking in any setting.

I love nature and I try to get a camping trip in anytime I can. My favorite spots are by a beautiful body of water hugged by nature’s forest and foliage. I love to sleep beneath spooky trees right under the stars. If there is a body of nice clear water, it’s most likely that I’ll jump in. I ‘d like to take awesome photos and videos after a nice trek and swim. Who wouldn’t, yeah? For the sake of footage I’d like to make sure my face looks decent and there are a few items I turn to.

Here are some of my waterproof favorites:

tarte’s clean slate™ poreless 12-hr perfecting primer , $31

Itarte cosmetics waterproof primer

I love the way this primer feels on my face! It comes out quite thick, but when I’ve applied it on my skin it absorbs very quickly. The texture and formula is perfect for any skin type and does pretty well with minimizing my pores. It holds onto my makeup nicely and it is also waterproof. My makeup seems to last a while and clings to my skin much better with this primer. I am very picky with primers because they often don’t work or feel icky on my face. If you are looking for a pore-less waterproof primer, I highly recommend this one.

tarte’s water foundation SPF 15$39

I don’t wear foundation all the time when I’m out hiking or camping, but I occasionally like to wear a tinted moisturizer. The reason I present to you tarte’s water foundation is because it is extremely buildable and is a nice slight cover up. Although it is not presented as waterproof I still think it holds up well in the company of a good amount of moisture, whether in the environment or bodily perspiration. With a light hand on the applicator pump a little over the face feels sheer and results in a more natural look while hiding whatever flaws you’d like to hide.

This liner WILL NOT budge once it is set in place. I don’t usually like to wear liquid liners that dry shiny (not matte), but I don’t mind it for an outdoor trip. It has a felt tip applicator and executes a winged-eye very well.

No matter the occasion I always wear waterproof mascara. My Asian lashes refuse to stay in a curl; give me some humidity and my curl is gone. I love waterproof mascaras because it has a waxy formula. The wax keeps my lashes perked up ALL day! I will never go back to normal mascara. Of course many people are discouraged by the fact that it is more difficult to remove waterproof mascara, I understand, but as long as my lashes stay curled I’ll gladly put in the time and effort to remove it. Also, I use an oil cleanser to remove my waterproof makeup. Whatever skin type you may have, oil cleansers are great for you (look into it! Or maybe I’ll explain it in a later post), so two birds…you know.

As a college student I can’t keep restocking on some of these items, it’s not economical! There are, however, alternatives to these products.

Here are drugstore alternatives (which I love just as much!):

waterproof drugstore

Maybelline’s Volum’ Express The Rocket Mascara Waterproof$6

Waterproof mascara

I actually turn to this mascara everyday. I’ve definitely repurchased this almost 20 times already. I try new ones at the drugstore and still I turn to my most trusted The Rocket Mascara. It is ¼ of the price of a mascara found at Ulta or Sephora and works just the same. The bristles on the applicator also gets every lash and volumizes my lashes. I’ll throw this mascara on by itself when I go to my workout sessions and it adds life to my eyes.

Rimmel London Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer$5

Waterproof eyeliner

I remember back in the day when I had just discovered makeup and the first eyeliner I picked up was Almay’s. I remember that even though it didn’t advertise as waterproof it stayed on really well after a swim. It held well but not as well as a waterproof liner. I still love that formula, but I have been using Rimmel’s waterproof eyeliner and haven’t turned away from it yet. When I threw this eyeliner into my shopping basket, I didn’t have high expectations since it was super affordable. Too affordable. My surprise to how cheap it was intensified when I realized it works so darn well! It stays on. I get to swim around like an otter, dry my face and this liner does not give up.

Eyestudio® ColorTattoo® 24HR Cream Gel Eye Shadow$6

This isn’t really an alternative to anything above but it adds color and dimension to your eyes while still looking effortless. Of course I mean the color Bad to the Bronze. I’m not sure how effortless or “natural” cobalt blue would look. Whatever color you choose to wear, this formula is amazing. The line doesn’t claim to be waterproof but it has proven, to me, to have non polar properties and is very long lasting. I’ve never tried the ColorTattoo for 24 hrs but it lasts from the time I apply makeup in the morning until the time I remove it in the evening. Also, I use this product when I don’t know what makeup look I want and decide to make life easier that day. 🙂

Those are my waterproof favorites. Please let me know what you’d like to see or if you have questions for me! Don’t forget to subscribe to see more photos, videos and other posts.

Thank you for stopping by and until next time!

Crystal

Tip Update! I will use my used and dryer tubes of waterproof mascara to brush out my eyebrows to keep them in place if I go swimming.

SiliSponge Review- Molly Cosmetics

Hi Beautiful!

I have recently tried the SiliSponge by Molly Cosmetics thanks to my brother-in-law who, by the way, seems to be a lot more aware of make up trends than I. I hadn’t known about it before he gifted it to me and my sisters for Christmas. It is currently sold out on the site. It is completely silicone with a clear coating of, according to Allure, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). I may have missed it, but I didn’t get any product specs on the Molly Cosmetics site. This material is used in a variety of products ranging from medical supplies to clothing. With TPU properties the SiliSponge should be pretty sturdy, or should at least last longer than other sponges on the market.

SiliSponge by Molly Cosmetics

I have tried it for a good week now and I really like the application. My foundation glides on and the result is smooth and looks just as good as if I had used a damp beauty sponge. The one thing that, I think, wins a point over a beauty sponge is its property to save a great amount of product! Usually I’ll pump out 2-3 good drops of my foundation of choice onto the back of my hand. I’ll use my beauty sponge and the full amount or more is needed to completely cover my face. The SiliSponge applicator only needs almost half that! I also appreciate how easy it is to clean. I use mild soap and water to rinse for only a few seconds and I’m right back at my vanity. It sure is handy on a morning when you’re running late.

I do have a couple of issues with it. First, I don’t prefer the feeling it leaves on my face over a damp beauty sponge. It’s slightly tacky, during application, and not as “comfortable” as a regular sponge. Of course this is only my experience and the feeling is different for everyone. Second, it is very difficult to hang on to! If you’ve watched my quick YouTube demo using it, you’ll see that I have fumbled with it a few times. It is a challenge to hold it while applying it on certain areas of the face. I would use it more often if it had some kind of handle or small finger loops.

Overall, I like it! It saves me foundation and it blends my concealer very well. I highly recommend the SiliSponge. It is cheaper than most applicators and it does a fine job. I have not tried it with eye shadow or highlighting but I prefer powder and using a brush for those things anyway.

Thank you so much for stopping by! Please comment or ask me anything. I’d like to know if you’ve tried it and how you’re impressions are of this product.

Until next week!
