Snowboarding at Northstar California

Hi beautiful!

I know I haven’t kept up with my weekly posts. 🙁 I just started my classes as a graduate student so I’m still adjusting to my class, study and work schedule. I will be keeping my goal for weekly posts. They will most likely be up by the beginning of the week, except this week :). This week’s “Snowboarding” post is a bit late but the week ahead will be on time!

Northstar

To start, I went snowboarding a couple of weeks ago! I absolutely love snowboarding! It is super fun. I actually haven’t gone snowboarding for the last 4 years and this was the first time in a long time. I don’t think I’ve lost my touch. 🙂 My family and I went to Northstar California Resort. This was my first time going to Northstar. I’d have to say, you really get what you pay for. There were so many slopes, so many lifts, and the service there was pretty nice! They hold shows at the center of the resort and hand out free food during the afternoon for cold and exhausted guests.

It was super fun and even other guest were extremely kind. If you were down, everyone would make sure you were okay. It was a nice place to be and a fun place to do these sports. I love it and I will be returning next Winter.

Northstar, S'mores
Bacon S’mores. What?! I was super hungry and it was pretty darn delicious.

Moving forward to preparations, I wore minimal makeup and organized by hair so it wouldn’t be super annoying as I was boarding. I could do a quick get ready with me video to show how exactly I did my makeup but I basically applied sunscreen, spot concealed some areas, and threw on some mascara. You should always apply sunscreen everyday, but I’ll have to admit it seems funny to apply a good sunscreen before going to the snow. However, the sun will always be out during the day (unless you’re in Alaska) and the snow is a great reflector. While you are skiing or snowboarding you will look toward the ground most of the time and the beams from the sun are being reflected into your face by the white snow.

What I put on my face:

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer With Broad Spectrum SPF 15

This has been my moisturizer for the last few years. I can’t remember when I started using it but it was a long time ago. I love this moisturizer because it has SPF and it gives a natural glow without making my face feel oily. Aveeno also has a tinted one but I haven’t tried that yet. I think I’d like to try it soon. I really like tinted moisturizers and BB creams.

SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV Defense SPF 50

My friend, An, actually gave me this product a while ago and it is my favorite facial sunscreen thus far. It’s not at all oily and it is super light on the skin. It’s sold in a squeeze tube and it comes out as a mousse. When I apply it, it is rapidly absorbed into the skin. Unlike other face sunscreens, this one doesn’t leave my skin feeling like it’s going to break out any second!

Etude House Drawing Eye Brow

I use to use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, but then I discovered this one; Etude House brow pencil. This is a Korean brand and I purchase it from Amazon. Sometimes it’s available with Prime and other times it isn’t and might take a few weeks to deliver but it’s so cheap I buy a couple at a time. The shape of this pencil starts out as a triangle. So, it has a pointed tip then angles down for an easy application. If you are familiar with ABH Brow Definer then you’ll know what this one looks like. It’s funny because the Brow Definer was released years after the Etude House’s Drawing Eye Brow.

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25

I’ve been using this for a while now. Sometimes they have package deals on amazon. I use a lot of different lip balms, but I like this one in particular because it has SPF and my lips are super sensitive to those sun rays. Jack Black also has a lot of different scents and they aren’t too potent but they smell delicious. My favorite is the black berry.

Duke Snowboard

Here are the things I wore to keep dry and warm:

The North Face WOMEN’S RESOLVE 2 JACKET White

This jacket pretty much goes everywhere with me. It goes camping, hiking, sailing, and to all other activities. It’s very light and the white color reflects the sunlight which help keep my arms and upper body cool. It’s pretty waterproof and it is a windbreaker so it keep me comfortable anywhere.

Boulder Gear Pinnacle Insulated Ski Bib

I have no idea what brand my snowboarding pants are and they were given to me so I’m not sure where to get it. However, I did track down a similar pair. These are actually cute and I might purchase these myself once the ones I have now give out.

Northstar California

Snowbaord Northstar, CA

That pretty much wraps it up! Until next time! Hopefully I’ll be posting a video soon, I’ll keep you updated. Be sure to follow me on twitter, @czeliot, to keep up with when I’ll be posting. Bye for now!

Waterproof Favorites!

Hello Beautiful! After a long, fun adventure people ask me what makeup I have on; what eyeliner are you wearing, what kind of mascara? Yes, I am one of those girls who wears makeup while hiking or working out. No, I do not contour or bake but I do add a little life to my face for, let’s be honest, memorable pictures! I love an au naturel look any day but I do support accentuating your facial features to your liking in any setting.

I love nature and I try to get a camping trip in anytime I can. My favorite spots are by a beautiful body of water hugged by nature’s forest and foliage. I love to sleep beneath spooky trees right under the stars. If there is a body of nice clear water, it’s most likely that I’ll jump in. I ‘d like to take awesome photos and videos after a nice trek and swim. Who wouldn’t, yeah? For the sake of footage I’d like to make sure my face looks decent and there are a few items I turn to.

Here are some of my waterproof favorites:

tarte’s clean slate™ poreless 12-hr perfecting primer , $31

Itarte cosmetics waterproof primer

I love the way this primer feels on my face! It comes out quite thick, but when I’ve applied it on my skin it absorbs very quickly. The texture and formula is perfect for any skin type and does pretty well with minimizing my pores. It holds onto my makeup nicely and it is also waterproof. My makeup seems to last a while and clings to my skin much better with this primer. I am very picky with primers because they often don’t work or feel icky on my face. If you are looking for a pore-less waterproof primer, I highly recommend this one.

tarte’s water foundation SPF 15$39

I don’t wear foundation all the time when I’m out hiking or camping, but I occasionally like to wear a tinted moisturizer. The reason I present to you tarte’s water foundation is because it is extremely buildable and is a nice slight cover up. Although it is not presented as waterproof I still think it holds up well in the company of a good amount of moisture, whether in the environment or bodily perspiration. With a light hand on the applicator pump a little over the face feels sheer and results in a more natural look while hiding whatever flaws you’d like to hide.

This liner WILL NOT budge once it is set in place. I don’t usually like to wear liquid liners that dry shiny (not matte), but I don’t mind it for an outdoor trip. It has a felt tip applicator and executes a winged-eye very well.

tarte’s lights, camera, splashes waterproof mascara$21

tarte waterproof mascara

No matter the occasion I always wear waterproof mascara. My Asian lashes refuse to stay in a curl; give me some humidity and my curl is gone. I love waterproof mascaras because it has a waxy formula. The wax keeps my lashes perked up ALL day! I will never go back to normal mascara. Of course many people are discouraged by the fact that it is more difficult to remove waterproof mascara, I understand, but as long as my lashes stay curled I’ll gladly put in the time and effort to remove it. Also, I use an oil cleanser to remove my waterproof makeup. Whatever skin type you may have, oil cleansers are great for you (look into it! Or maybe I’ll explain it in a later post), so two birds…you know.

As a college student I can’t keep restocking on some of these items, it’s not economical! There are, however, alternatives to these products.

Here are drugstore alternatives (which I love just as much!):

waterproof drugstore

Maybelline’s Volum’ Express The Rocket Mascara Waterproof$6

Waterproof mascara

I actually turn to this mascara everyday. I’ve definitely repurchased this almost 20 times already. I try new ones at the drugstore and still I turn to my most trusted The Rocket Mascara. It is ¼ of the price of a mascara found at Ulta or Sephora and works just the same. The bristles on the applicator also gets every lash and volumizes my lashes. I’ll throw this mascara on by itself when I go to my workout sessions and it adds life to my eyes.

Rimmel London Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer$5

Waterproof eyeliner

I remember back in the day when I had just discovered makeup and the first eyeliner I picked up was Almay’s. I remember that even though it didn’t advertise as waterproof it stayed on really well after a swim. It held well but not as well as a waterproof liner. I still love that formula, but I have been using Rimmel’s waterproof eyeliner and haven’t turned away from it yet. When I threw this eyeliner into my shopping basket, I didn’t have high expectations since it was super affordable. Too affordable. My surprise to how cheap it was intensified when I realized it works so darn well! It stays on. I get to swim around like an otter, dry my face and this liner does not give up.

Eyestudio® ColorTattoo® 24HR Cream Gel Eye Shadow$6

This isn’t really an alternative to anything above but it adds color and dimension to your eyes while still looking effortless. Of course I mean the color Bad to the Bronze. I’m not sure how effortless or “natural” cobalt blue would look. Whatever color you choose to wear, this formula is amazing. The line doesn’t claim to be waterproof but it has proven, to me, to have non polar properties and is very long lasting. I’ve never tried the ColorTattoo for 24 hrs but it lasts from the time I apply makeup in the morning until the time I remove it in the evening. Also, I use this product when I don’t know what makeup look I want and decide to make life easier that day. 🙂

Those are my waterproof favorites. Please let me know what you’d like to see or if you have questions for me! Don’t forget to subscribe to see more photos, videos and other posts.

Thank you for stopping by and until next time!

Crystal

Tip Update! I will use my used and dryer tubes of waterproof mascara to brush out my eyebrows to keep them in place if I go swimming.
